MFC the concept of the future – from vision to reality

VBG’s Multi Function Coupling concept, MFC, has since its presentation as a pilot project in the autumn of 2004 now taken the step from vision reality.

MFC creates a new standard for efficiency
With MFC it will now be possible for the driver to handle all the stages of connection and disconnection with just one push of a button from the cab. Ultrasonic sensors make the guiding simple. The information is converted to audio and visual signals on a display on the dashboard, after which the automatic system takes care of everything – the coupling of the trailer, the brake air and the electrical system. Next year MFC will be released in an expanded version that also handles the hydraulics.

All-in-one for maximum comfort and safety
MFC incorporates several patented solutions. In addition to the new coupling, the system also consists of a completely new type of wedge-shaped drawbar head with integrated connectors for the electric power, hydraulics and air. The actual coupling is protected behind a panel, which opens during the connection. The panel also functions as a guide for the wedge-shaped head.

Solid coupling for a better working environment
The new concept also produces a completely smooth coupling action between the truck and trailer, which significantly improves drive comfort. Because the driver does not need to leave the cab, this also improves the working environment and reduces the risk of injury. MFC quite simply improves comfort at all levels.

Extensive tests completed on the road
The latest generation of prototypes has produced excellent results. We have had our laboratory tests confirmed by test drivers, who have shown great enthusiasm for the new concept.
