FAQ Drawbar eyes

Cut the wear ring at 5-6 points with oxyacetylene torch to release the tension.  Ideally the wear ring should release by itself when cut. If not, carefully tap on the wear ring. NOTE! Do not knock out the wear ring. This will scrape the eye, and impair the attachment of the new wear ring.  Heat the front slider to 400° (dark red). A higher temperature will interfere with the hardening. Insert the new wear ring from below the eye, and hold it in place. The wear ring must not be knocked into the eye. Cool the eye with rags dipped in water. Do not cool by flushing with a hose. Welding of the wear eye is not permitted either, since this can weaken it.
